The President of the Government and the Basque lehendakari met on Monday with covered cowbells, without wishing to point fingers. While Artur Mas and his partner staged their disagreement, Rajoy and Urkullu demonstrated that people understand each other by talking, that great political lesson that Ernest Benach learned from a banal conversation with the King at the time.
With his "yes or yes" consultation now out of the way, Mas has changed his mind: consultation or plebiscitary elections. The problem is that his partner in the opposition, Oriol Junqueras, is not willing to enter into a coalition with CiU without prior consultation. The General Policy Debate has been enough to stage the brawl and for the PSC's first secretary to debut as a valet de chambre, in the best style that the two Spanish parties do for nationalism in Euskadi and Catalonia: morroi del caserío for the PNV or palanganer for the meublé of Convergència. Remember the role that Alicia Sánchez Camacho played with that legislature pact that only lasted for a couple of years.
The General Policy Debate was the moment for Moses to show the tablets of the law to his people and take them to walk around the Sinai for four decades. This is what tradition demands of the chosen peoples. Juan Josué Ibarretxe announced his plan in a General Policy debate on 27 September 2002.
